So Depressed

I'm having a down day today. I wanted to have my short polished and ready to sub by the end of the month (meaning next Friday), but I can't stop re writing the first half long enough to get the edits done to the second half. Why does this have to be so hard and why do I have to be such a perfectionist? It's making me all gittery and I feel like I have butterflies in by stomach. Am I ever going to get to the point where I like a story enough to sub it? *sigh* These thoughts run through my head all day long. Please tell me that I'm not the only one going through this! I need some encouragement. *sniffle*

*Please excuse any spelling errors. The spellcheck seems to be out of order. ;)

Aww, hugs!! You're definitely not alone! I think all writers go through that. Just make sure you don't "polish" it to death and forget to send it in, lol! Maybe it would help if you put the first half out of sight so you have time to distance yourself from it, then work on the second half. Then, when you're ready, you've got fresh eyes :) Good luck!

Lauren, you're definitely NOT alone in that boat. Go out and get a great little book called "Writing Down The Bones." It truly will help you get all the way through your story, and help you resist the temptation to polish it to death.

I just took a workshop with Bob Mayer. He said you should resist doing this because sometimes your first draft has some wonderful gems in it that you risk editing out in subsequent drafts.

Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

BTW, you've been tagged. Check out my blog for details.

Take care!

Put that first half to the side and don't look at it. No--not even a peek and go on with that last half.

You can do it! ;)
